Greetings, Na tol a
The Atakapa-Ishak attended the Acadian Memorial Festival today it was a really nice and very enjoyable day. The people really welcomed us and thanked us for attending, and for sharing our history with them about our ancestors who that lived along the Bayou Tech. I’d like to thank Ms. Janice, Tammy, Jeffrey, the council members that were in attendance, and my daughter Shimeka for their support. We also had the pleasure of participating in the reenactment of the arrival of the Acadians in the St. Martinville Bayou Tech area by pirogue. The younger Ishaks Justin and Kayden really enjoyed the ride. This was such an honor for me especially since my Atakapa-Ishak descendants shared the same experience along Bayou Tech. There were many individuals and families from the festival that stopped to take a look at our exhibit and many were very interested in our heritage, taking several pieces of information with them to further their education on our history. One individual even expressed interest in her son using our tribe as subject matter for a school report on Native Americans and was excited to share all that she had learned with him.
I’d also like to give a special thanks to the staff at Acadian Memorial for all their support and assistance with this event in helping to spread more awareness of the history of Atakapa-Ishak to individuals from all around the world.
So long, Hath u’ tol ka!
