Gwendolyn Berry, Treasurer and Eagle Band Council Member

Gwendolyn Berry is the treasurer of the Atakapa-Ishak Nation tribe as well as the Eagle Band Council Member. She has been married to Michael Berry for nearly 40 years and has two sons, two daughter-in-laws and two grandchildren. Gwendolyn was born and raised in Lake Charles, La. But has lived in Houston for decades. She has been a member of the Atakapa-Ishak tribe since 2000 and says that Hubert Singleton’s influence led her to join the tribe. She has two associate degrees from McNeese State University in accounting and general studies as well as a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Science degree from Midwestern State University. She is currently vice president of operations, which involves financial planning, investments, insurance and lifestyle planning.

In her spare time she likes to spend time with her family, dance, work at the church and help those in need. There are three goals that she’d like to see come to fruition for the tribe and those are unity, recognition and awareness.
